NBA Summer League Recap

nbanba

?

The first set of games for the NBA Summer League session began today in Orlando. As mentioned in earlier posts, several Cats have made their presence heard at the AmWay Center today.

Kentucky Players

-Terrence Jones gave the performance of today for the Houston Rockets. The king of glamour shots ended with 24 points and 12 rebounds on 9 of 13 shooting. Jones is battling with Greg Smith for power forward minutes for the upcoming season. Terrence played exceedingly well in the final games of the regular season and appears to continue his high level of play into next season.

-?Doron Lamb?showed the Orlando Magic why Kentucky fans always expected three goggles when Lamb shot from beyond the arc. Lamb tallied 13 points off of 3 treys and 2 assists. The Magic are in full rebuild mode which should offer Lamb plenty of playing time if he maintains a hot shooting hand.

-Daniel Orton, yes Daniel Orton, came up huge for the Thunder today with 15 points 4 rebounds 2 blocks and 2 steals to beat the Pacers. Orton appears to be in the best shape of his life in hopes to keep a spot on the NBA roster for the entire season. In the same game,?Deandre Liggins?scored 2 points and 3 rebounds. While the stat line isn?t great, Ed Isaacson of NBA Draft Blog explains the quality of Liggins? performance when I asked what he saw of him.

Other Top Performers

- Kyle Wiltjer impostor?Kelly Olynyk?looked great for the Boston Celtics today scoring 25 points along with 7 rebounds. Olynyk struggled defensively, but his offense carried the load for Brad Stevens? squad.

-?Grant Jerrett, the power forward out of Arizona, dropped 4 of 5 three pointers en route to 17 points to pace the Thunder although he did record 6 fouls.

-?Dwight Buycks, who I would have 0 chance of picking out of a lineup, had a very impressive game for the Pacers, recording a staggering 13 assists along with 12 points in just 25 minutes of play. Good job random D League player.

The final game of the night, Pistons-Nets, includes no UK players, but it is the debut of Peyton Siva.
